Video Search Engine Optimization

Do you optimize your movies for search engines?
We do know search engines do check for information on movies when they rank them in search engines. If I remember right, AOL has done this for around 2 years or more.

Now with search engines coming out with video search, like Yahoo. It is a good way to get traffic to your sites. Now it has been awhile since I worked with movie content. But I do remember that when I cut movies down to 10-30 second clips that there are fields you can fill out about the movie.

If I remember right the fields were title, author and a couple others. Keywords may be one, or I may be thinking PDF files. These are your tags. These are the fields you should take the time to fill out. Just taking that time could give you the jump on your competition.

I had some papers on this from a search engine conference in 2003, I will see if I can dig it up.

Pre Sale Pages

SEO Pre Sale Pages
The other night I was discussing Pre Sale Pages with Aaron Wall from SEO Book. They have been around for awhile. Are they better than just a link? I think so, I have used them on many sites.

It is common in affiliate marketing for affiliates to host pages on their sites which warm up prospective clients prior to selling supplies on another site. If done correctly pre sell pages can have a positive effect on both conversion and SEO.

Google Cloaking? Are they playing down now?

Threadwatch has a discussion going about Google Cloaking their adwords page. You can’t do it but maybe they are.

A short while ago, Threadwatch member Adam_C discovered what for all appearances seems to be Google pulling dirty SEO tactics on it’s own pages and thus going against it’s own guidelines in an effort to rank highly within it’s own results.

Cloaking
Cloaking is covered in Google’s guidelines as something strictly not to do:

Full post here:
http://www.threadwatch.org/node/1774

Have they been caught? Are they trying to cover it up now? They are denying it now at BetaNews.
So do you think Google does use cloaking? Feel free to comment here.

Yahoo Celebrates 10 Years

Yahoo Celebration
Yahoo started back in 1995 is celebrating 10 years. Their recent blog tells you how they started.

I bought a fast Pentium running shiny new Windows 95. I got ISDN. I downloaded each new beta browser. In early 1996, I was hired to build a directory of web sites for one of Yahoo!’s now vanished competitors. I stepped into the fast-moving current, riding wave after wave of discovery, gathering a daily catch of tools and trinkets: image maps, javascripts, dancing widgets, canonical lists of nearly everything. I was getting paid to websurf!

MSN Found

MSN Found
MSN started MSN Found to market their new search engine. They posted in their blog that they believe people are taking the site too serious.

The campaign is simply meant to be an alternative way to entertain people and let them know about MSN Search. The pages aren’t supposed to be “blogs but are character pages – this is a fictional search “opera, told through a narrative of the characters.

Full MSN Found blog post here.

HyperOrg
It looks like HyperOrg thinks it is a pretty piss poor marketing tactic.

The main page, MSNFound, aggregates six phony blogs supposedly written by a demographically-appealing set of people. The individual blogs are one-entry and not very interesting. In fact, they are interest-averse, as so much marketing is. For example, the one by the so-called conspiracy theorist has a small banner about the “Enron/Afghanistan connection,” but it’s not linked to anything.
