Marketing
Blunders
1.
Not marketing your web site offline. This should be on everything
you use, letterhead, checks, envelopes, business cards,
all ads.
2.
Redesigning
your website and losing your page and rankings in Search
Engines.
If you are switching from html to asp, many things should
be considered and discussed.
3.
Spamming pages with keywords that are text in the same color
as the background. This is just wasting time.
4.
Site fully built in Flash. Search Engine indexing will not
happen, it is possible if you build it right, but don't
expect wonderful results and top 10 listings in search engines.
5.
Using JavaScript in links. Hey I have perfect anchor text
for my site, doesn't do you any good if JavaScript is keeping
search engines from indexing them.
6.
Not targeting your market. Do you know who your selling
to? I recommend testing that market before you go full force
with marketing to them.
7.
Spending on the wrong type of ads.
8.
Unclear message in ads.
9.
Images that take the consumer away from hearing, seeing
or reading your message.
10.
Not acting on consumer feedback or response.
11.
Failing to create targeted opt in list. If you
market to both consumers and businesses, there should be
a list for each.
12.
Failing to advertise and market your product or services.
If you build it they will only come if you build for that
too.
13.
Thinking
meta tags are useless in 2004.
14.
Not having a marketing plan.
15.
Avoiding or not keeping up with legal changes.
16.
Slow loading site.
17.
Not using Alt tags.
18.
Not making it easy for consumers to make their purchase.
19.
Not researching keywords.
20.
Keep spending money on advertisements that are not producing
results.
